Sustain/Able Show

On December 3rd the Garden Collective displayed our beds and labels in the Sustain/Able Show in MassArt’s Crackeratorium. The show exhibited green works from all different departments, student and faculty. Beyond our very public garden bed locations this was our first formal public display of our happenings. Our portable beds served their purpose well in transporting the seedlings across campus.  We put on quite a display of greens, with our inherited LED heat lamps from Jonathan Santos’s Garden Lab from Spring 2012. This was a huge mile stone for the club. Many of us were able to network our message and interests to a community with similar intensions.

Nathan Philips Thursday

This past thursday November 29th the Garden Collective had the pleasure of hosting our Scientist in Residence. Nathan Philips, a sustainability enthusiast discussed with us all the possiblities available to us in the fens. The invasive species, phragmitees is a perfectly adequate source that could be taken advantage of for valued crafts and uses. His talk opened up a new view of sustainability, making use of the neglected into something massive and valued.
