From Darkness to Light… and back again

August 22 – October 5, 2022

Opening Reception on Thursday, September 8, from 4-7pm (Refreshments served!)

The graduate programs are pleased to present the first on-campus graduate student curatorial project of the 22/23 academic year: From Darkness to Light… and back again, on view at the Doran Graduate Gallery from August 22 – October 5, 2022

Are we living an enlightened existence, or aimlessly wandering in the dark? This exhibition considers these concepts, not as binary opposites, but as symbolic places we move into and out of continuously in the course of our lives. What does a transition from one place to another look or feel like? Is it a stark epiphany or is it a slow, colorful burn? Or something else? This exhibition explores the liminal place of metaphoric darkness and light: transitional spaces relating to spiritual, personal or cultural transformation and meaning. These works translate the ineffable into implications of relief, renewal and resistance.

From Darkness to Light… and back again is curated by Tracy Leavitt (MFA ’23 Fine Arts Low Residency).
