GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS + INTERNSHIPS

GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS

Current graduate students (who are in good academic standing and enrollment in a minimum of 9 credits) have the opportunity to apply for paid graduate assistantships during the fall and spring semesters, and on a limited basis in the summer. The Grad Office compiles a list of all available assistantships each semester, which is sent to all graduate students. Grads apply for positions directly with faculty and staff supervisors. All positions must be submitted to the graduate programs office in advance and reviewed by the Dean of Graduate Studies.

We are thrilled about the wide range of opportunities being offered each semester! We hope students will take the time to read through the lists and apply for an assistantship that relates directly to their professional goals, skills, and interests.

View further details on the MassArt Grad Assistantships webpage.

*Please note: students must complete a new contract form for every assistantship, regardless of whether they have worked this same position in a previous semester or whether they have worked for MassArt in the past. SPRING 2024 GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIP CONTRACTS DUE FRIDAY 2/2/24. CONTRACTS NOT SUBMITTED BY THIS DATE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

International students must have a valid SSN to work paid assistantship positions. Confirmation of Employment letters are provided by the graduate programs office. International students seeking confirmation of employment letters should contact gradprogram@massart.edu ASAP.

FOR STUDENTS: STEPS TO TAKE TO BEGIN A GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIP

  1. After applying directly with supervising faculty/staff and being selected for a position, students download a blank contract form (linked from the button above).
  2. Complete the top of the contract form fully (including MCA ID#), sign, and forward to supervising/faculty/staff for their signature.
  3. Submit the signed form to the graduate office at gradprogram@massart.edu (with both your signature and your supervisor’s). Spring 2024 contracts due 2/2/24 — contracts submitted after this date will not be accepted.
  4. The grad office will review, approve, and submit your contract to the Payroll office.
  5. Once the contract has been processed by Payroll, the Grad Team has to submit the students into the Interview Exhchange HR system. This is where new students will be prompted to apply and/or complete New Hire Paperwork (including a CORI check) via Interview Exchange. New Hire Paperwork is for students who have not previously worked a paid position for the college. Students may opt for Direct Deposit at this time.
  6. Please note that students should expect to use a .pdf timesheet (available for download above) for the first 1-2 pay periods of the semester (AFTER SUBMITTING YOUR CONTRACT + FIRST PAPER TIMESHEET), while Payroll creates (or reactivates) student accounts in the online Payroll system, TimesheetX. From that point forward in the semester, students may submit hours digitally. Processing times may be longer for new hires. Please also note that international students must obtain a Social Security Number prior to beginning work. Please see International Student info above.
  7. .Pdf timesheets should be signed (either physically or digitally) by both the graduate assistant and the faculty/staff supervisor, and emailed to <fdscott@massart.edu> and <gradprogram@massart.edu>.

STUDENT INTERNSHIPS

The MassArt internship program provides structured internship experiences for academic credit that help prepare MassArt students for careers in the Creative Economy. Through internships, students can apply their skills and experience in a professional environment, acquire business skills, explore potential career paths, and start building a professional network. MassArt graduate students are eligible to apply for internship credit and may be approved for 3 elective credits toward their degree.

The MassArt internship program is supported by the Career Development office <careerdevelopment@massart.edu>. If you have any questions, please contact the Internship Manager, Rebekah Wright, at <rwright@massart.edu>.

Please note that while the Graduate Programs office manages paid assistantships, internships are managed for all students (undergrad and grad) by the Career Development Office.
