The FABLABS are communal spaces dedicated to supporting the creative process, developing problem-solving skills, and empowering the community through emerging technologies and the process of digital fabrication. The FABLABS consist of:
Tools: 3D Printing, 3D Scanning
The UPLAB is currently in its pilot phase, focusing on building out our systems with select pilot classes. Phase 2 will follow with open hours available to students who have completed training in the pilot courses. Phase 3 will then facilitate training for students outside of the pilot classes and additional open hours will be announced.
Tools: Laser Cutter
The Laser Lab is located in the Design & Media Center in room D-311 and is available to MassArt students and staff daily.
To request Laser Cutting Services, please visit https://blogs.massart.edu/laserlab/ (Sign in with your net ID and password.)
Click the “Request Laser Cutting Services” button and fill out our Google form. This will send the lasercutter@massart.edu account an email and put you in the queue. This will be required for ALL users, even walk-ins. When Monitors arrive for their shifts in the lab, they will see your request and reach out via email to set up a time for you to work during Monitor hours. You’ll need to save your files to a USB flash drive for use in the Lab.
Monitor hours are:
- Monday – Friday 9:30-4:30
For faculty members who would like their class to be trained on the lasers, please reach out to Adam Zapotok at azapotok@massart.edu. He can visit your class (in person or via Zoom) to talk about what you can do with laser cutting, what materials are safe to use, how to set up a file for the lab. Please reach out at least two weeks in advance so we can tailor the presentation to your class.
