Daylight Savings Insomniac

Cocooned in darkness and white noise,
I am the only one still awake in the world

I am stuck between night and morning,
as Circadian dances wildly to its own new tune

The sound machine hums away
predictably, rhythmically
attempting to negotiate my thoughts
Elsewhere

Artificial iridescent bulbs and blue lights flicker,
mocking me under their break
Analog numbers jump from 2 to 3
the sixty minutes and seconds in between left
nowhere to be found

The present moment disintegrated, turned to

dust,

and

blown away

Coated corneas with
brain blotches under eyelids

Thumping heart beats against chest,
nausea and uneasiness come in waves with
the lingering taste of dank smoke underneath breath

I’ve been left behind
by the cycle of Father Time

My body of work seems to be situated in deep thought and broad unknowns. Themes that have emerged across the collection include time, space, the cosmos, Earth, nostalgia/memory, consciousness, and dreams. I am fascinated in how writing and expression can serve as vehicles in channeling energy/ forces both physical and metaphysical. I find that reading and writing poetry can be extremely awakening and hope that my work can create a space for others to find greater connection to themselves and nature, or at least start to open up to ideas of discovery and personal awareness.
