Project Proposals: Laura de la Calle González

FINAL PROPOSAL GUIDELINE:

I am a person as demanding as indecisive; that’s why I have several ideas in my mind, I would be very grateful if you could share your thoughts with me

IDEA No1

CONCEPT/SUBJECT

Relationship between Earth and humans;after years and years Earth has experienced changes and has become more vulnerable because of human actions, now it’s time in order for Earth to take a break and can breathe calmly… but for how long?

My idea is to photograph how coronavirus is affecting people as well as Earth indirectly (and I say indirectly because covid19 is not capable of making earth globe sick, but people are), and how society is able to change quickly and is able to the re-adaptation

I’ll photograph empty streets, public transportation, empty and closed restaurants, people using different staffs trying to protect themselves, keeping distances, animals walking around the streets…

TECHNICAL APPROACH

I intended to shoot most of the photos without a tripod, but i think i will use it for some of them. My camera is a Lumix, and i’ ll use a fast/medium shutter speed, but maybe in some of them i’ll use a slow shutter speed to show the movement around the city. My palette of color is going to be varied to try to show as much as possible the mood of this time. I’ll try to shoot during the different times of the day.

TECHNICAL APPROACH AND SPECS: (OUTPUT)

My idea is that most of the pictures will be in color, but if I think that one/ two photos would be much better in black and white I will convert to that. I consider that I will print the photos and make a big and abstract picture or poster on the wall. I don’t know yet which print I could use.

IDEA No2

CONCEPT/SUBJECT

Self-portrait representing the natural beauty of women. Since I started the photography course I was thinking of criticizing the perfectionism that women are required of them. I love Francesca Woodman, Jen Davis and their work; through my project I would like to transmit the elegance and details of the woman’s body in her natural mood in different situations as when we are lazy, or we have a messy room, also when we are enjoying and when we are in a calm moment, that it to say, in every single moment.

We are not perfect, but i am so happy not being a perfect woman, and i would to show that the most important thing is being happy and in peace with yourself, because when you get that, you can feel that you are the most pretty woman not only physically but also mentally, and then, when you feel safe, with energy and power, you could show it to people with a positive nature and true to yourself.

If your soul feels beautiful, happy and in harmony with yourself, then it will no matter what society says.

TECHNICAL APPROACH (INPUT)

I intended to shoot all of the photos with a tripod. My camera is a Lumix, and i’ ll use a big/medium exposure so a fast shutter speed. I’ll use different points of view of my body with different backgrounds. My palette of color is going to be varied, but always ( or almost always) the color of the skin will be present. Most of the photos will be inside and i don’t think i will be able to use natural light.

IDEA No3

CONCEPT/SUBJECT

When Rebecca asked “ Who we are photographically speaking” reminded me why I am here, far from my family and friends. In that way and following Elinor Carucci and her narrative stories through photography,I was thinking of making a story about myself: could be a regular day, could be a story describing myself as my hobbies, my personality. It might help me to discover myself and remember these moments in the future.

The answer is to settle my thoughts and discover who I am and
what I want to be (professionally speaking) in some years.

TECHNICAL APPROACH (INPUT)

I intended to shoot all of the photos with a tripod. My camera is a Lumix, and I’ll use a big/medium exposure so a fast shutter speed. I’ll use different points of view of me with different backgrounds and elements which could describe me. My palette of color is going to be varied. I’ll try to take five photos outside and other five inside of a building/ house/room

  1. Laura-

I like idea NO3. Exploring yourself through your art is a noble capstone to your experience here is Boston. Your desire to discover who you are and ‘settle your thoughts’ is profound. Your previous self-portraits are amazing and I think you can produce a body of work that is not only beautiful but personally fulfilling.

Whatever you do decide to do I know it will be thoughtful and beautiful!

    1. Hi MaryAlice,

First at all, thanks you for your opinion and your trust in me.

I think im going to work in this idea, to know more about me, and following working on self-portraits.
At the same time, i was photographing on the streets and asking people if i could photograp them, most of them are no comfortable with that because of covid, so it is one of the reason to chose the third ideas too.

I hope you have luck photographing people who are wearing masks because i think is a really good idea,

      Laura

  2. Hi Laura!

    All great ideas!

I am initially drawn to the first and third approaches. I’ve been really inspired by the empty street photography I’ve been seeing on Instagram lately. I think those images are really beautiful, moving, and so rare. What other time in life would we see streets with no cars, main city centers with no people, nothing in our view but architecture, lighting, and the tiniest glimpse of normal life?

I like the third idea as well, and think your daily life right now as you know it will serve as an important visual diary of your experience in Boston. It will be a neat exercise to think about your daily habits, activities, and interactions. I think this would help you as you grow both personally and professionally, and would serve as a meaningful memoir to keep with you forever.

Excited to see what you select as your subject!

    1. Hi Maggie,

Thanks you so much for your time and answer.

I think that finally i am going to choose the third option: its going to be a good proyect to think about me and a such good memory here in Boston.
Although i think i am going to continue shooting photos outside to capture coronavirus moments, just for me

      Thanks you so much
