About Artistic Noise

Artistic Noise is an arts and entrepreneurship program for youth in the juvenile justice system and youth living in the communities we serve. By working both inside the detention facility and back in the community, Artistic Noise provides continuity for youth who are often experiencing trauma and upheaval in their lives. In Artistic Noise participants process and document their lives by creating artwork exploring themes such as identity, hope, incarceration, and dreams. Participants exhibit and market their artwork, learning transferable job and life skills from entrepreneurial projects and exhibit planning.

 

Boston Director’s Responsibilities

The Boston Director oversees all aspects of Artistic Noise’s programs in Boston and works with the New York Director and Artistic Noise’s Board of Directors to guide and grow the organization as a whole.

 

Responsibilities:

Program and Curriculum Development:

  • Create and implement studio art projects with incarcerated young women.
  • Run community based entrepreneurial projects with youth from the program.
  • Design innovative and multi-media visual art projects examining issues important to our youth, especially related to youth incarceration.
  • Build relationships with the facilities where Artistic Noise offers programming.
  • Organize 2-3 art exhibits a year, in collaboration with local institutions.
  • Collaborate with NY chapter on program development and projects

Organizational Development and Infrastructure

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to envision and work towards Artistic Noise’s future.
  • Collaborate with the Board on grant writing and fundraising
  • Evaluate and assess programming and regularly report program activities and outcomes to the Board.
  • Manage administrative tasks for a small non-profit organization.
  • Document all projects, for publication on website and elsewhere.

Supervision and Training

  • Supervise and train the Assistant Director.
  • Hire, train and supervise other teaching artists, staff and interns as needed.
  • Supervise and train youth involved in the entrepreneurial projects.

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with urban youth.
  • Expertise in developing art curriculum for teens in a variety of 2-D, 3-D, and digital media.
  • Strong teaching and group facilitation skills.
  • Commitment to working with incarcerated youth.
  • Belief in the creative potential and crucial voices of young people affected by the juvenile justice system.
  • Interested in issues of art and social justice.
  • Keen political/social/critical analysis skills.
  • Creativity and desire to grow with a small grassroots non-profit.
  • Experience with non-profit administration a plus.
  • Familiarity/knowledge of Boston community a plus.
  • Patience, self-motivation, and flexibility.
  • Working artist with a strong studio practice.

 

Compensation:

This is a part-time 20hr/ week salaried position with flexible schedule. Compensation is commensurate with experience ($22,000-$26,000). Workshops typically run September-June with a July and August break.

Temporary TAB Art Teacher Position Available with Montessori school in E. Boston

11-week TAB art teacher position available at Dante Alighieri Montessori School in East Boston to cover a maternity leave!

The current teacher describes the school as: “a wonderful, tiny little community of families and teachers that culminated from an existing Montessori program nearby, so the everyone is already accustomed to the methods of teaching and learning in a non-traditional classroom. The admin. is EXTREMELY supportive of not only the Arts but of the TAB method itself – it’s like a dream come true!”

The TAB sub will work roughly from 11/25/14 through 2/6/15. The job is 4 days per week (T-F) from 7:10 am – 1:40 pm. You see all 88 kids everyday, and it’s mixed age groups from K-4th grade.

Saturday Studios is Seeking a Media Admin Assistant

Schedule

8:00 AM-12:45 PM each Saturday, except 7th until 4 PM).

Variable Pre-Saturday work is required to ready the equipment and process documentation.

Job Description

1. This position demands an organized, responsible person who exhibits excellent interpersonal and communications skills. Knowledge of or willingness and ability to learn about digital equipment is essential. Flexibility, humor, and detail-orientation required.

2. Check in with Studio Manager at the start of the semester on the status of the department’s technology. Also, read the manuals and familiarize yourself with the department’s equipment so that you feel comfortable and competent operating it and instructing others.

3. All equipment (video cameras, DVD players, cameras, tripods) checkout is handled by you to the appropriate studio teachers in their classrooms throughout the morning. Pick up the same equipment from classrooms at agreed-upon times and return it to the media closet by the end of the day. Assess the condition of returned equipment. Resolve problems with the studio teachers.

4. Studio teachers are responsible for all equipment while it is in their rooms. Doors need to be locked when the room is empty.

5. Record studio teachers in the classroom when requested by the teacher or supervisor. Keep a clear schedule of these upcoming events. Transfer video to DVD if needed.

6. Assist in classrooms, conduct assigned administrative tasks, gather attendance, supervise break time for students and, in general, help as needed each Saturday morning.

7. Assist in hanging the exhibition on the 7th Saturday of each semester from 12-4pm. Assist in dismantling the exhibition and putting away work on the 8th Saturday.

8. Advise Studio Manager about non-functional equipment throughout each semester.

9. Photograph and/or videotape throughout the semester. Load digital photos onto an accessible computer database. If needed create media presentations to exhibit on the 8th secure such presentations. Document opening day and student work.

Program Assistant for Artward Bound at MassArt

Artward Bound is a multi-year college access program. The Program Assistant  will be responsible for working to strengthen the academic support systems of Artward Bound and strengthening connections with the students’ schools. They will also focus on reviewing and improving data collection of student academic achievement, and assessment and reporting information, among other things.
