South Boston Open Studios

November 3 and 4, 12-6 pm

Vanessa Irzyk (BFA in Studio Education May 2007;  currently student teaching) will be participating in this weekend’s South Boston Open Studios.   Visit her studio and see her paintings  at The Distillery, #210 W.    Other Mass Art alums will also be opening their studios at The Distillery, which is located at 516 East 2nd Street, South Boston.

Lecture Series

Understanding the Social, Emotional and Learning Lives of Black Male Students
Wheelock College
October 30-31, November 13-14, January 16-17, March 13-14

In its second year, the Education of Black Male Youth seminar series will inform and engage the local and national communities with five free lectures and full-day workshops addressing the education crisis affecting Black male youths.

Each free lecture is open to the public and will take place in Wheelock’s Lucy Wheelock Auditorium at 180 The Riverway, Boston.

The full-day workshops have a registration fee of $175 each ($750 if you register for all five at the same time) and will take place at Wheelock’s Brookline Campus, 43 Hawes Street.

Excellence in Visual Arts Education

Diana Hampe, an art teacher for over thirty years,  was chosen as Teacher of the Year by the faculty of the Art Education Department at Mass Art.  She has won numerous other awards for her teaching, including  twice being named Outstanding Art Educator by the Massachusetts Art Education Association, and  has been a  frequent presenter at National, Massachusetts, and New England Art Education Association conferences.   Since 1987 she has taught at Walpole High School and for the past ten years  has beenVisual Arts Curriculum Coordinator.    Diana Hampe’s curriculum decisions have always been informed by her own professional development (including a MFA from Boston University in 2002), her studio experiences, and museum and gallery visits, which keep her students current and connected to the art world beyond the classroom.  She was responsible for building the sequential art program at Walpole High that has grown from six sections of art to twenty and that offers students several AP courses in drawing and design.
