140th Anniversary of MassArt

How MassArt Changed the World
November  6th , 6:00-8:00 pm
Tower Auditorium

On the 140th anniversary of the day that MassArt opened its doors, November 6, 2013, MassArt librarian Paul Dobbs will give a brief slide talk “How MassArt Changed the World.” Paul formerly taught the graduate course in the history of art education for our department. Since one of the original purposes of the college was to train art teachers, his talk should be of especial interest to Art Education students.

Following Paul’s talk, author, historian, and Pennsylvania State University Professor Mary Ann Stankiewicz will deliver a lecture probing and analyzing our 140 years: “The World that Created MassArt and the Worlds that MassArt Created.”  She has published an excellent book and scores of articles on the history of teaching art in America.  Most recently her research has focused on MassArt.

Finally, the last segment of the evening is scheduled for the audience, especially professors emeriti and alumni, to add, comment, and critique.

This will serve as the kickoff for ten years of research and reflection preparing for MassArt’s 150th birthday in 2023.
