KATALINA SIMON

Illusions of Time

For the past year I have been making images of my family. With my camera I navigate the sea of emotions I have about my children growing older. Like many families before me, I feel the urge to shelter my children while also fully understanding the need to set them free to become who they are meant to be.

For this work I have been collecting specimens and experiences of family life, creating my version of our family history. I catch fragments of their childhood selves and see glimpses of who they will become as adults. While I can’t stop time, with my camera I can freeze moments of mystery and magic to hold onto.
