Diana Hampe, an art teacher for over thirty years,  was chosen as Teacher of the Year by the faculty of the Art Education Department at Mass Art.  She has won numerous other awards for her teaching, including  twice being named Outstanding Art Educator by the Massachusetts Art Education Association, and  has been a  frequent presenter at National, Massachusetts, and New England Art Education Association conferences.   Since 1987 she has taught at Walpole High School and for the past ten years  has beenVisual Arts Curriculum Coordinator.    Diana Hampe’s curriculum decisions have always been informed by her own professional development (including a MFA from Boston University in 2002), her studio experiences, and museum and gallery visits, which keep her students current and connected to the art world beyond the classroom.  She was responsible for building the sequential art program at Walpole High that has grown from six sections of art to twenty and that offers students several AP courses in drawing and design.

ICA Teacher Open House

Bringing Contemporary Art into your Curriculum
Saturday, October 13, 10 am – 1 pm

Through an annual Teacher Open House and workshops, the ICA offers K-12 teachers opportunities to broaden their knowledge and appreciation of contemporary art, while discovering ways to creatively engage students in arts learning that builds visual and critical thinking skills across disciplines.  The ICA’s permanent collection and the Poss Family Mediatheque-a digital space where one can learn more about the artists, their work, and key concepts in contemporary art-serve as resources for teachers seeking to integrate art into their curricula.

Birds and Bards

Art Education Department and the Center for Art and Community Partnerships

Art and Poetry Installation at Boston Nature Center, Mattapan

Art Education students at the Massachusetts College of Art, led by Lois Hetland, Associate Professor of Art Education, have installed a temporary exhibition of poetry and artworks related to birds, migration, and flight for the Birds & Bards Festival (June 2, 2007) at the Boston Nature Center in Mattapan.  The works are part of a larger installation by Brookline’s Studios Without Walls artists, called Art on the Wing (http://www.studioswithoutwalls.org/).
