Reif Larsen Visiting Art Education Department on March 25

Reif Larsen, author of the NY Times bestselling novel The Selected Works of T.S. Spivet and Lois Hetland’s former student, will visit classes in the Art Education Department on Monday March 25 and give a public talk at 6:00 pm in Kennedy 406.

Youth Development Training Opportunity

TRAINING SERIES:  YOUTH DEVELOPMENT IN THE ARTS

Training description:

This four-session, 16-hour training introducing youth workers and teaching artists to ways to reinforce the natural alignment between youth development principles and strong arts learning experiences. The training goes into depth about the youth development approach, using arts examples and including exploration of art education theory. The training team will include a trainer certified in the youth development approach and an experienced teaching artist. Continue reading

Faculty Presentations at NAEA Conference in Texas

The National Art Education Association conference will be held this year on March 7-10 in Forth Worth, Texas.

This is the largest annual gathering of art educators in the world and  includes over 1,000 participatory workshops, panels, seminars, research reports, discussions, exhibits, and tours as well as  keynote addresses by world-acclaimed educators, artists, researchers, and scholars.

NAEA Student Chapter

MassArt now officially has an NAEA student chapter.  There are  twenty students with NAEA memberships, and fourteen are attending the national conference in Texas in March.

The goal is to help the students in the Art Education major to build strong connections to the outside world of art educators.

Mural Art Contest

Campus Entertainment, a  college marketing agency, is sponsoring a mural art contest “The Millennial Generation: Your Canvas, Your Impact” and encouraging MassArt undergraduates to apply. 

Highlights  of the contest include:

  • $1,500 Prize for the winner; $500 for 2nd and 3rd place
  • The opportunity to have the selected student’s art featured at a prominent advertising firm in downtown Boston
  • Relevant press and PR opportunities

Submission Details:

  • Submissions are due Friday, March 1st at 11:59 PM EST
  • Students must submit a design for the mural, estimated budget, a description of their piece, sample bio, and  pictures of two previous pieces of work
  • Pieces will be judged based on creativity, ingenuity, and commitment to the theme, “The Millennial Generation: Your Canvas, Your Impact!”
