The Commenting System

The Commenting System here at MassArtEd is pretty bare-bones.

Instead of having the comment system automatically connected to certain kinds of documents (for example, the Journals/Blogs) It is actually invoked by adding this code:  [need image of code]

George Nick Prize

The George Nick Prize competition is now open to juniors and seniors in all majors.  That means you are eligible to apply, Art Education juniors and seniors.  See the prize description and the revised rules below.

George Nick Prize (REVISED 4/23/07 )

The Massachusetts College of Art Foundation is very pleased to announce the competition for the fifth annual George Nick Prize. The purpose of the George Nick Prize is to encourage emerging artists; who, through observational capabilities, skill in drawing, and understanding of the role of tone and color, create two-dimensional works that can be recognized in terms of content and emphasizing form(s) of realism.

This Prize will be awarded on the basis of merit, upon the discretion of the jury. Traditionally, the prize amount has been $9,000 to be split between one or more winners. The Prize is restricted to works done in drawing, painting, and printmaking by all majors in their junior or senior undergraduate years or Masters of Fine Arts candidates (first and second years) at MassArt. Former George Nick Prize winners are ineligible to apply.

A congratulatory message from Maureen Kelly, Chair of Art Education

Congratulations to all involved in the All School Show.   The exhibition was of such high quality –the level of thinking and making I believe was unparalleled in comparison to all previous Art Education showings for the All School Show!  The studio culture and expectations for the whole Art Ed community to really dig in and develop coherent, communicative,  expressive, and sophisticated work, were in evidence.   And the awards bestowed were just the delicious icing on the most spectacular cake!

Congratulations to all who submitted work; to all whose work was chosen for exhibition; to Jen Hebert, Laua Mazzei, Lindsay Metivier; Lori Korczynski; and Vanessa Irzyk for their awards; and to the faculty and staff who worked so communicatively and transparently with you all (John C., Steve Locke, Kyle, and Kristen….I hope I am not leaving anyone out!).   I am so pleased for you and hope that you are so very proud of yourselves!

And now onto Art Ed extravaganza Part II – if you have not already done so, please  check in on the Exhibitions class show Consumption, now in the Arnheim Gallery.   Wow!  John G and the students enrolled in this class have so thoughtfully explored this theme that the work just knocks you over.   Congratulations to you all too…..see you at the opening next Thursday, April 19th in the evening as usual.

Teacher Test Preparation Workshop

Lin Haire-Sargeant, the director of the Writing Center in the Critical Studies Department, will be leading a worskshop for Art Education students preparing to take the Communication and Literacy section of the MTEL (teacher test).  You will take sample tests to identify any problem spots, which you can then work on in the Writing Center.  If you are feeling anxious about the test,  the workshop will offer strategies that can help.  If you are taking the November 11th test or a later one, sign up for this workshop as it will be the only one offered at Mass Art this academic year.

 Saturday October 28, 2:00-6:00

Meet at the Writing Center, Tower 533

Sign up by stopping by the Art Education office or call Deborah at 617-879-7550.
