Teaching Artist Travel Experience: Ecuador 2009

2walking.jpgPlanning is already well underway for  this summer’s travel course to Ecuador July 1-16.  Last year’s trip was a wonderful experience for all participants.  Dan Serig and Juan Ormaza, a MassArt professor and Ecuadoran, will be co-leaders again this year.

The itinerary will be somewhat different.  In addition to Quito and the Cloud Forest in the Andes, the group will explore the very different coastal culture and stay at a national park on the beach.  The experience of working with children was a highlight of the first trip, and there are plans to increase these opportunities and increase the depth of these experiences.

Please contact Dan Serig with questions about the trip:  dan.serig@massart.edu  or 617-879-7549.

A Message from the SGA Rep

An update from Courtney McKenna, the Art Education SGA rep:

1)  The Art Education Department now has a membership in EXCL, Extras for Creative Learning, which is a clearing house for recycled materials.  Business and industry donate excess materials, which are then redistributed to teachers and students for creative educational use.

A membership includes a specified number of visits per year to choose and take materials.  Saturday Studios, Seminar 1 and 2, and Art and Human Development will be allotted some of these visits, which will leave about 11 or 12 visits for Portfolio students.  Contact Courtney
