The Art Education Office is open for the rest of the summer now that Deborah is back from a fantastic vacation in England and also in Maine.   

Summer hours are:  Monday to Thursday 8:30-5:00 and Friday 8:30-12:00.

A group of eight MSAE students, led by Dan Serig and Juan Ormaza, traveled to  Ecuador the first two weeks in July, exploring the culture, art, and landscape of that amazing country.  

The Department welcomed the new MSAE cohort  July 20th and will be celebrating the  graduation of the first cohort of the revised MSAE program on August 28.

M.S.A.E. student Linda Anderson was  one of the winners of this year’s  George Nick Prize, a college-wide award that has never before been won by a student from any department other than 2D Fine Arts.   

Named for Professor Emeritus George Nick of the 2D Fine Arts Department, the prize is awarded to advanced undergraduate and graduate students in any department of the college who, through observational capabilities, skill in drawing, and understanding of the role of tone and color, create two-dimensional works that can be recognized in terms of content and that emphasize forms of realism.   As Linda’s advisor Jen Hall said at the Awards Ceremony, "Linda Anderson’s painting certainly does this at the highest technical level.  Linda’s paintings also transcend visual realism to embody what it feels like to be in a simple moment of humanness."

In addition to the honor, the George Nick Prize comes with a major cash award.

Linda completed the Teacher Preparation Program in 2004 and is nearing completion of her MSAE.  She has been teaching art at Concord Middle School since Fall 2004.

The National Art Education Association Convention is happening right now, April 17-21, in Minneapolis.

Dan Serig, Lois Hetland, and John Crowe are attending and presenting, along with many of our alums and art teachers from around the nation. 

More than 1,000 sessions,  workshops, and tours will be offered over the next five days.
