Mentoring
Artists who teach share their understanding of the artistic process.  They guide their students through explorations, present problems, and coach them to craft their ideas into visual solutions. Sometimes during this process a special interest is taken, a special bond is formed, and a teacher becomes a mentor.

Cristina Pinton

CristinaPinton2010Cristina Pinton (MSAE 2004) taught in Boston for two years before moving to Italy for what she thought would be a year or two.  Here is her account of the past six years in Italy:

“Six years ago I moved from Boston to Florence with nothing more than a dream inspiring me. Since then I’ve learned Italian to the point that I’m no longer recognizable as an American, I’ve re-founded my relationships with my Italian relatives in Milano, Vicenza, Roma, I’ve taught studio arts at a study abroad program, taught English to some of the major Florentine institutions and local banks, worked in the field of wine tourism for almost four years and the cult foodie world for two, met some truly amazing people, battled many a bureaucratic battle (I’m still waiting for my citizenship) and in the end was able to celebrate our tri-mix of cultures and marry the man of my dreams (the very one I met the second weekend I moved to Florence six years ago).”

Now the next phase of Cristina’s adventure begins as she and her husband leave Florence and move several hundred miles to the south, to Basilicata, a more rural, agricultural region of Italy, to start a new life.

Cristina writes about life in Italy on Suite 101. You’ll find recipes, travel suggestions, and information on studying in Italy, among other topics.  Also see Cristina’s new website.

We appreciate Cristina’s keeping in touch and wish her all the best.  We invite other alumnae to send us their stories.
