From their website: "The Virtual World Best Practices in Education (VWBPE) conference
originated from the 2007 Second Life Best Practices in Education
Conference. This grassroots, community-based conference attracts
faculty, instructors, trainers, administrators, instructional
designers, technical specialists, and members of organizations from
around the world. Those who create teaching/learning environments,
resources, tools, support services and professional development
opportunities internal and external to virtual world environments
participate. During the conference, participants have opportunities to
ask: What is education?, What is teaching?, What is learning? and How
can we provide virtual world educational environments in which today’s
learners can become all they can be."
This will be an opportunity to hear from educators around the world who
are actively using virtual worlds and immersive technology in their
teaching.
Schedule of events and speakers:
http://wiki.vwbpe.org/index.php?title=Schedule
The schedule includes SLURLs (inworld locations) and teleport links to
the various locations. You need a Secondlife account to attend
(accounts are free). Most people find that they need at least an hour
to acclimate to the virtual world and figure out how to move. New users
are always welcome at Educational events. There will be mentors on hand
to answer questions and assist users.

Olivia Gude
Artist, Educator, and Recipient of the National Association of Art Education’s 2009 Lowenfeld Award
for significant contributions to the field of art education
Lois Hetland says, "This is a not-to-be-missed presentation! Come and bring your friends so you can show them just how cool art education really is. Crowe and I are friends with Olivia–he’s told his classes that she is his "professional crush." Saturday Studios has lots to learn (and has already learned a lot!) from her Spiral Workshop about ways to bring in contemporary art, visual and youth culture (read "the street"), and post-modernism (I appreciate it because of Olivia). Probably most important for us at MassArtEd is her understanding about connections between community art education and art education in K-12 schools. And, well, she’s fun, and really funny. Come!"
