End of Semester Events in Art Education Department

Portfolio Day   Wednesday May 16

From 11:30 to 2:oo the teaching portfolios of the spring semester student teachers and community interns will be on display in South 109.  This is an opportunity to see the inspiring work of  Art Education students who are completing their programs, as documented in their portfolios.   The portfolios contain teaching philosophies, photos of the student teachers in action in their schools, lesson plans, photos of the work produced by the young artists, and personal art work and artist statements of the student teachers and interns.   Teachers from the schools are invited to review the portfolios, which become tools for the new graduates to use in their job interviews.

In the New Teachers/Young Artists exhibition in the adjacent Arnheim Gallery see the fabulous work done by the students of our students.

From 3:00-4:00 the student teachers and interns will meet with the reviewers and have a small reception.

Art Ed Studio Reviews

Mon, May 14  &  TUES, May 15

There are review times for 20 Juniors & Seniors who are taking a Portfolio class this spring.   A lottery will be held if more than 20 students volunteer.   If fewer than 20 juniors and seniors volunteer, we will open reviews to sophomores.

Please sign up on the clipboard outside of the S210 studio from Monday, April 30 – Thursday, May 3

Students to be reviewed will be notified of time and place via e-mail on Friday, May 4.

These voluntary reviews of current Portfolio students’ work will be 20-25min long, 5 reviews in the morning, 5 in the afternoon over 2 days, for a total of 20.

All students are strongly encouraged to witness the reviews in preparation for next year’s mandatory semesters’ end reviews.

These will take place during the College’s review board days (Monday, May 14th & Tuesday 15th).

We will cross reference traditional studio & TFU review strategies.

Steve Locke, Lois Hetland & John Crowe will be the core group of reviewers with Kyle Brock’s assistance.  We have invited all Art Education faculty for any/all of the reviews.

Also see the "Artist Spotlight" article featuring Kristen in Artpoint, the newsletter of the Fort Point Arts Community (March/April 2007).  [Stop by the Art Education office to see a copy.]   In the interview Kristen talks about her thesis project at Mass Art, her hundred million squares project (which will take her 72 years if she can create an image every 3 1/2 minutes, according to one of her studio visitors!),  her obsession with lists, and other fun topics.
