Uproar
An Artistic Noise Retrospective 2001-2011
Arnheim Gallery
February 6-24
Reception: Wednesday February 8, 5-8pm
Gallery Talk: February 8, 6:30pm
Two journeys are revealed by this retrospective exhibition. The first is the collective journey of hundreds of youth involved with the juvenile justice system and youth living in the communities served by Artistic Noise, who have made art over the past ten years in Boston and New York. Through their artwork, these young artists have made their voices heard. The exhibition title “Uproar” describes the intensity and force of their voices when brought together under one roof for this exhibition.
The second journey explored through this exhibit is the evolution of Artistic Noise from fledgling idea to thriving non-profit organization. This exhibition is a celebration of that journey, and the many individuals, foundations, partners and government agencies that have made this work possible.
The gallery talk will be given by:
Francine Sherman, Co-founder of Artistic Noise and Director of the Juvenile Rights Advocacy Project at Boston College Law School, who will share her thoughts about Artistic Noise and its work with youth in the juvenile justice system
and
Minotte Romulus, who was first involved with Artistic Noise as a youth artist and is now the Assistant Director, who will share her thoughts on the ten year anniversary of this organization.
