Dan Serig will be presenting “Matter and Metaphor: Imagining Identities in a Globalized/Tribalized World.”
This presentation considers influences of Ecuadorian globalized/tribalized material culture on the art making of a group of transcultural art educators. Material culture as a conceptual framework for art education is discussed.

John Crowe and some of his students will be presenting “Visual Culture STORIES.”
As Curriculum building blocks, stories have sticking power. The presenters will share thoughts, research and a catalog of examples applicable to visual art study.



MSAE alum Peter Curran will speak on “Visual Mnemonics for Identifying Common Social Impairments of Asperger’s Syndrome,” and MSAE alum Diane Jaquith, along with Kathy Douglas, will be giving a talk on “Nurturing Artistic Behavior” and signing their new book Engaging Learners through Artmaking.

Keynote Speaker on November 14:  Dr. Deborah Smith-Shank,  “Snowy White Sheets, Bloody Red Feathers, and Muddy Black Boots: Feminist Visual Culture and Pedagogy.”  Dr. Shank  is currently serving as elected Vice President of the International Society for Education Through Art (www.insea.org).  For more information, please visit: www.emitto.net/visualculturegender
