The Eliot School of Fine & Applied Arts in Jamaica Plain invites proposals for classes and workshops for fall 2013 and winter 2014. Please use the online survey form or you can download and return the pdf from http://eliotschool.org/classes/propose-class. That web page includes information on facilities and other parameters as well.
The deadline for proposals is March 28.
For next year, they are particularly seeking:
FOR ADULTS:
– Fiber Arts and Sewing workshops and classes.
– Workshops that use their Bernina serger.
– Clothing Design, Pattern Drafting and related classes. These might include how to design a specific type of clothing (hat, vest, skirt), or how to draft a particular pattern (circle skirt, tote bag).
– Classes in how to re-purpose old clothes into new ones.
– One and two-session book arts workshops.
– Single 5-hour drawing workshops for their Draw for a Day series.
– Daytime drawing and painting classes for adults that also create a comfortable atmosphere and build a community that can carry through the entire year.
– Ways to engage intermediate level artists in skill-building, critique, conceptual development.
– Classes that place drawing and design in the service of crafts. Examples might include Fashion Illustration, surface design methods for fabric, or intermediate furniture design.
– Special short-term workshops for woodworkers in carving, lamination, bending, legs & feet, drawers, etc.
– Exciting short or medium-length photography workshops. Their students are asking for exposure to additional photo teachers.
– Another option could be a kind of photo club – a recurring class that intermediate students can take on and off when they have the time that would provide challenging assignments, exposure to work by unfamiliar and classic photographers, technical instruction and group critique.
FOR KIDS:
– Creative daytime classes for toddlers. These can include music and movement as well as art. Parents are looking for activities messier and different from what they usually do at home.
– Classes for kids that involve inventing and tinkering. They are open to experimenting with some electronics, even perhaps legos.
– After-school art classes for kids ages 6-9 and 9-12 that go beyond drawing, painting and what kids most often learn at school.
