Art Education Position Announcement

The School of Art at Illinois State University seeks a three-quarter time, non-tenure-track lectureship in Art Education to begin August 15, 2014 with the possibility of renewal for a second year.  The successful candidate will have the ability to teach theory and methods at the undergraduate and graduate levels.  Responsibilities include teaching three courses per term encompassing topics such as Art for Elementary Schools, Art for Diverse Populations, Technology for Public Schools, and appropriate graduate level topics.  The supervision of student teachers may be assigned in place of one course, and can involve travel around the state.  Committee service is not expected.  The salary is consistent with non-tenure-track assignments within the School of Art and includes 75% benefits.  For details, see: www.hr.illinoisstate.edu/prospective/benefits.

We are seeking a knowledgeable, innovative, and dedicated professional with an understanding of contemporary issues in education and theory.  The successful candidate must have at least a Masters degree in education, teacher certification and fluency with contemporary classroom technology.  Full-time teaching experience in a PK-12 setting, an earned doctorate, and a studio background are preferred.

Illinois State University is located in the Normal/Bloomington area midway between Chicago and Saint Louis along Interstate 55.  The art education sequence has a proud history of leadership in the field as evidenced by the ISU NAEA Student Chapter, which has earned national recognition for excellence.  Many graduates have gone on to establish successful careers and remain active in state and national professional organizations.

Faculty members in the art teacher education program enjoy a positive relationship with their colleagues in the studio concentrations, art history, and visual culture.  The School is made up of thirty-four full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty members, five of whom are in art education.  Our student population averages sixty majors in art education at the undergraduate level and approximately 8 graduate students in art education.
