Art Director for Camp Harbor View on Long Island in Boston Harbor

BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF BOSTON are currently recruiting for the position of Art Director to work at Camp Harbor View located on Long Island, MA.  Long Island is situated in QuincyBay, in the middle of BostonHarbor.  The island forms part of the City of Boston, and of the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area.  The day camp will serve campers aged 11-14 years. 

There will be minimal consultation meetings in May and June. The  seasonal full time schedule is June 16- August 22, 2014.

Purpose:

Major responsibility is to oversee the planning, implementation and ongoing evaluation of quality and developmentally appropriate programs, activities, services, and special events in the camp’s arts program areas for youth ages 11-14.

Responsibilities:

  • In conjunction with department staff, provide a variety of programming options reflective of the Camp Harbor View Arts Program.  The Director will also run individual programs, and activities and develop program partners in the Arts Program area.  Individual responsibilities include, but not limited to, oversight of all arts programming including, but not limited to, visual, performing, and literary arts.
  • Supervise and discipline of members participating in programs and services within the program area as well as throughout the camp as deemed appropriate.
  • Develop and implement collaborative programs and events with staff from other camp departments as well as program partners as appropriate.
  • Orient, train and supervise department staff (including leaders in training). Provide seasonal performance evaluations for applicable staff in a timely manner.
  • Secure, maintain and monitor budget, materials, equipment and other resources belonging to the program area(s).  Maintain cleanliness of program area(s).
  • Participate in individual and group supervision sessions
  • Other related duties as specified by Executive Director, Director of Operations or Executive Directors.

 Qualifications:                       

  • BA/BS in related field preferred, equivalent experience considered
  • Direct experience developing and delivering arts programs for youth; experience in out-of-school time settings preferred
  • Knowledge of trends in arts programming, techniques and theory, and utilization of technology in the arts fields
  • Minimum one year supervisory experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required
  • Ability to work with youth and families from a variety of backgrounds
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility to work extended hours
