The West End House Boys & Girls Club (WEH) has been transforming the lives of immigrant and urban youth since its founding in 1906. Our mission is to inspire and enable youth, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. Annually, our after-school and summer programs serve more than 1,500 youth between the ages of 7-18, with more than 275 attending each day.
The West End House is looking for an energetic, experienced youth development and arts professional to become our full-time visual arts instructor. The ideal candidate will have the skills to develop and teach an engaging arts curriculum of outstanding quality in an urban setting. The instructor must recruit young people and teach structured classes in a variety of media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, etc.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and teach high caliber instructional classes and related arts activities at various skill levels for all Club members in a wide variety of visual art media
• Promote and stimulate the children’s attendance in art classes and participation in the arts
• Create pathways so that youth can advance from beginner to advanced levels
• Provide opportunities to showcase and celebrate youth’s skill development and individual expression
• Provide WEH children with exposure and access to the rich array of arts activities and organizations throughout the Boston and closely collaborate with artists, arts organizations, parents, and families
• Work closely with the Director of Visual and Performing Arts to assure that the arts program is fully integrated with the club’s other youth development activities

• Flexible and creative self-starter with a demonstrated ability to work through obstacles.
• “Hands-On” mentality – candidate should be willing to work directly with kids and parents.
• Strong group facilitation skills
• Ability to relate to culturally diverse group of youth as an instructor and mentor
• Desire to work as a part of a strong youth development team
Skills/Qualifications:
• Bachelors degree and experience teaching art to children required; advanced teaching or art degree preferred.
• Experience working in multicultural environments, bi-lingual (English/Spanish) a strong plus.
• Experience teaching urban youth and in an out of school time setting
• Ability to conduct a classroom independently.
Salary:
$31,000- $35,000 depending on experience; benefits include medical & dental coverage, vacation, and 403 (B).
