Ceramics Instructor for After-school Program

The Beaver Country Day School Visual Arts Department seeks to hire an experienced ceramics teacher for its Afternoon Art Program, fall 2012. Beaver Country Day School in Brookline, MA is an independent, co-educational, progressive day school serving 425 students in grades 6-12.

Job responsibilities will include developing a contemporary ceramics curriculum, working with students in grades nine through twelve on a daily basis, managing supplies and workspace, and coordinating kiln firing. The program meets Monday through Friday, from 3:45 to 5:15, beginning on Monday, September 9 and ending on Friday, November 16. Candidates should plan to arrive by 3:30 and stay till 5:30 for set up and clean up, and to be flexible about coming in at other times to coordinate firings and to update the department chair on student progress when necessary. The program will take place in Beaver’s sculpture studio, equipped with work tables, canvas covered boards, modelling stands, several pottery wheels, and a Stutt kiln.

Qualified candidates should have extensive technical knowledge in ceramics, an interest in its role in contemporary art, be able to share images and examples of projects they have executed with students (preferably in grades nine through twelve) and be capable of managing a budget for supplies. The stipend for this position is $3,750.
