Internship description
Montserrat College of Art Galleries seeks a motivated individual to work directly with its staff on specific educational and outreach initiatives for 10 hours per week.
Interns should be interested in working with diverse audiences, from college-aged students to members of our outlying community. This internship will have two main focuses, Gallery Education Initiatives and Montserrat Art Connection.
Interns will be involved in continued research and training in museum-education philosophy and practice from the Asst. Curator of Education, and will play an integral role in the planning and implementation of educational programming. This includes, and is not limited to: overseeing and participating in our Take20 Gallery Talk Program, creating text-based interpretation material for exhibitions and offering new ideas for unique ways to engage our student audience.
Interns will also support the initiatives of Montserrat Art Connection (MAC), a program that installs original works of art in social-service agencies and non-profits in our community.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: assisting with the intake of new work, photographing and editing images, maintaining our image database, attending site-visits with MAC Project Manager, assisting in the installation of work, documenting MAC happenings to share with parent organization.
Skills/Requirements:
– Experience in Visual Studies, Museum Studies and/or Museum Education
– Experience giving gallery/museum talks or working with audiences in other settings
– Ability to think quickly, creatively and problem-solve
– Strong organizational, scheduling and writing skills
– Experience with database management (i.e. Bento)
– Experience using a digital camera and comfort with simple photo editing
