Title: Assistant to Community Liaison
Program Summary
Agassiz Baldwin Community (ABC) is a private, non-profit organization with a forty-year history of quality programs and services in the Cambridge community. Programs include Agassiz Neighborhood Council, Sacramento Street Preschool, Agassiz Baldwin Afterschool, Outback Summer Program, Living Well Network (elder and intergenerational programming), and Maud Morgan Arts. ABC serves the Agassiz neighborhood as well as greater Cambridge, creating a diverse community.
The Agassiz Neighborhood Council (ANC) was established in the 1970s as part of Cambridge’s Community Schools program and is a forum for discussion and action with the goal of enhancing quality of life in our community. ANC hosts regular monthly meetings September to June. The Whistler monthly newsletter features minutes from community meetings, agendas for upcoming meetings, and keeps residents and program participants up to date on neighborhood news, programs, and events.
Position Description:
The Community Internships offer students the opportunity to develop skills in the areas of community relations and outreach, writing, new media (website and internet applications), and event coordination. This internship is unpaid.
Interns will:
Attend Agassiz Neighborhood Council meetings (one Tuesday evening per month), assisting with set up, taking minutes, and clean up
Develop meeting minutes into articles for publication in The Whistler
Photograph events, programs, and classes and help maintain ABC’s photo library
Create content for ABC’s website
Help manage ABC’s online social networking effort (Facebook, Flickr, etc.)
Provide assistance to Living Well Network computer lounge; set up, teaching, and clean up
Write press releases and create Community Notice emails using Constant Contact (web application)Develop creative outreach strategies and materials
Supervision
Supervision and support provided by Community Liaison on an ongoing and regular basis.
