William Kentridge:  Anything is Possible
a documentary produced by Art 21

Monday, October 4, 6:00pm
Tower Auditorium

MassArt has been chosen as a select venue to screen this film before it airs nationally on PBS on October 21st.

Following the screening, there will be an engaging discussion inspired by Kentridge’s methodology of collaboration, play, and experimentation.  Panelists from MassArt and Berklee College of Music will involve the audience in debate about the possibilities of contemporary practice in a variety of fields.

Lois Hetland, who is an Evaluation Consultant to Art 21, will moderate the panel, and Steve Locke will be a panelist. Lois says,”It’s a wonderful film that says a lot about contemporary practice and implies a lot about how we teach art in 2010.”

The film gives viewers a rare inside look at Kentridge’s work. The first Art21 film devoted to a single artist, William Kentridge: Anything is Possible provides an intimate look at the creative process, political and artistic philosophies, and personal background of one of the most provocative and dynamic artists working today. Kentridge’s work, which includes drawings, sculpture, animated films, tapestries, live performance, theater and, most recently, a production of the Shostakovich opera The Nose, has received worldwide recognition and accolades.

This event is held in conjunction with the William Kentridge exhibition on view in the Bakalar Gallery from October 4 – December 11.  The reception for the exhibition will be Thursday October 7, 6-8pm.
