Means of Accumulation
April 13-30
Arnheim Gallery
Opening Reception
April 15, 5-7pm
Means of Accumulation is the evidence of a variety of artists defining their relationship with the world of numbers. Coming from different mathematical backgrounds, these artists contemplate, create, explore, and in turn, solve visual equations. Each work’s existence is a testament to the artist’s grappling with the marriage of numbers and art, an investigation in the variable similarities and inevitable differences. Some artists have developed processes, while others are concerned with measurement; some collect data and analysis, while others use pattern and repetition.
Characteristically, numbers can be considered indisputable, while art is abstract and fluid. This show is evidence that the act of processing and collecting data can now be seen as the development of an art piece, as well as a process to developing a solid scientific solution to an almost indescribable problem. In Means of Accumulation, numbers and art coexist in congruence.
