Jessica Swegel (MSAE 2003) was chosen to create an ornament for the official White House Christmas tree. One artist from each of the 435 congressional districts in the U.S. was asked to decorate a 9-inch spherical ornament, and Representative Michael Capuano chose our alum Jessica for his district, which includes Cambridge, Somerville, Chelsea, and parts of Boston. Jessica based her design of a snowy landscape on memories of childhood Christmasses and winters in the Berkshires. On December 2nd she attended a ceremony in the Blue Room of the White House, where the 20-foot Fraser Fir with its 400 handcrafted ornaments was unveiled. Jessica teaches at Stoneham High School. |
