Art Education Awards

Rachel Whittier Memorial Fund Award. . . Tiffiney Shoquist

Awarded to a student graduating from the Art Education Department who exemplifies the promise, ideals, qualities, and spirit of a great teacher. Rachel Whittier was a Professor of Art Education at the former Massachusetts School of Art.

Dorothy Jacobs Platt Prize for Art Education . . . Lindsay Metivier

Awarded to a graduating student majoring in Art Education who exhibits the passion and ability to inspire learning and is committed, dedicated, and enthusiastic about teaching art in public schools.  Dorothy Jacobs Platt, a native of Concord, Mass., graduated 1934 with a B.S. in Art Education.  She taught art in the public schools of five Massachusetts towns in the 1930s and 40s.

Robert Thomas Higgins Memorial Award. . .  Christine Jackson,   Carina Koury-Jones,  Sarah Beth Tracey

Awarded on the basis of merit and need to two students, either juniors or seniors in Art Education.  The late Mr. Higgins was an alumnus of Mass Art who resided and taught in Brockton.

Peter Masciarotte Memorial Award. . .  Erin Feeney, Sheri Turcotte

Awarded to a deserving junior or senior Art Education major in honor of Peter Masciarotte, a class of 1992 Art Education alumnus.  His commitment to the arts and education through his work with children, families, and parents continues to inspire those who knew him.

Mark Fallon Award . . . Alana Robles

The Mark Fallon Award goes to an outstanding undergraduate.  Mark Fallon was an exuberant and dedicated student teacher.  Before he did his student teaching, he was an incredible asset as Saturday Studios Assistant.  Mark passed away early in life.  This award goes to a student who shares his spirit and purposefulness and passion for teaching.

Civic Engagement Award . . .  Kassandra Derby

Awarded to the Art Education student who has acted as a powerful catalyst for personal growth and social change in members of a community beyond our campus.

Graduate Book Award . . .  Damon Burnard, Mei-Hui Huang

Department Honors

The Art Education Department reserves graduation with department honors for students who demonstrate many of the following characteristics:  high achievement in Art Education courses; a vigorous practice of art and teaching; ability to reflect on their own practice;  service to department and/or community; professional initiative.
