Digital Media Study Seeks Participants

MyViews: Media Youth Views is a research study at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. We are studying how young people socialize, explore, and create using new digital media.

Who can Participate?
We are inviting young people (ages 18-25) to take part in our study. Participants should live in or near Boston and participate regularly in one or more of the following activities:

• Online games or virtual worlds (e.g., World of Warcraft, EVE Online, Runescape, Second Life, Gaia)
• Social networking sites (e.g., MySpace, Facebook, Xanga, Orkut, LinkedIn)
• Blogs (e.g., LiveJournal, Blogger) • Knowledge communities (e.g., Wikipedia, online forums)
 • Video, photo, art, or fan fiction sites (e.g., YouTube, deviantART, Flickr)

If this sounds like you, please read on…

What Does the Study Involve?
There are 2 parts of the study. First, you will complete a 10 minute survey about your activities online. After you complete our survey, we will contact you to let you know if you are eligible for the second phase of the study. In the second phase, you will be interviewed twice. In the first interview, we will ask about your experiences in various online activities, the goals and values you bring to these activities, pivotal online experiences, and your responses to them. In the second interview, we present you with hypothetical scenarios that might occur online. We then ask you to discuss how you would respond to these scenarios.

When?

You can fill out a survey on our website: http://mediayouthviews.org at any time. Once your survey has been reviewed, we will contact you if you are eligible and schedule interviews at your earliest convenience. We will work with you to schedule interviews at a time that is convenient for you.

 What Do I Get?

After the study you will be sent a check for $25 for each interview in appreciation for your time, for a total of $50.
