Community Arts Initiative Workshop Series 07-08
is excited to present:
Dr. Lois Hetland- Studio Thinking: The Real Benefits of Visual Arts Education
Thursday November 8
10:00 am
Remis Auditorium, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
For all of those interested in the state of art education!
On November 8, Lois Hetland, lead author of the new book, Studio Thinking: The Real Benefits of Visual Arts Education (2007, Teachers’ College), and co-author of the recent Boston Globe article (September 2, 2007), Art for Our Sake, will lead an interactive discussion about uses of the Studio Thinking model of arts learning as it relates to students and families in our Community Partner organizations. She will introduce the importance and meaning of developing "artistic mind" with video clips from local Boston classrooms and photographs of student art work, before framing the work of a class in the Community Partners program with this model. Dr. Hetland will close her talk by addressing practical questions from the audience about how this framework can support bringing art and the MFA to our community in engaged, socially just, and equitable ways.
