PHILIP GUSTON AT HAUSER AND WIRTH LOS ANGELES

I Recently visited the Hauser and Wirth Gallery in Downtown Los Angeles to see the Philip Guston show, the first solo show in LA of the late painter in over fifty years. The exhibition was curated by his daughter Musa Mayer, whose book Night Studio I highly recommend. The show is comprised of two bodies of work: the Roma Paintings, and the Nixon Drawings. The Nixon Drawings were on view at HW New York location in the winter of 2016, timed with the presidential election. Quite serendipitous that the work is on view again today…. here are a few images from the show, and a few more links for you to follow below! Enjoy!!

I studied with John Baldessari at UCLA, and worked for him for a few years after graduate school. He is generous and kind, with a great take on art and life. It was fun find this link of John Baldessari talking about Guston.
