Alcohol Poisoning

 Alcohol poisoning is the body’s reaction to excessive, unhealthy, levels of alcohol. It is very possible to overdose on alcohol, and if alcohol poisoning is left untreated, it can lead to short- and long-term health consequences, even death. Remember “MUST HELP” when looking for signs of alcohol poisoning.

  • Mental Confusion
  • Unresponsive
  • Snoring/gasping for air
  • Throwing up
  • Hypothermia
  • Erratic breathing
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Paleness/blueness of skin

If you suspect alcohol poisoning:

What you should do:

  • Call for help
  • 911 – Emergency
  • 879.7800 – Public Safety
  • Stop the person from drinking more alcohol
  • Stay with the person until help arrives
  • Turn the person on their side to prevent choking
  • Be prepared to give emergency medical personnel as much info as possible

What not to do:

  • Do not leave the person alone to “sleep it off”
  • Do not induce vomiting
  • Do not give the person any meds, drugs, or more alcohol
