Temporal scarcity means the knowledge a person has that what they have can disappear at any
time. Especially specific for all of us living in a pandemic, this concept increases as a person
ages and though I never thought of it in my 20’s and 30’s, I certainly do on a daily basis in
present times. Temporal scarcity, and looking to the future to appreciate the present would be a good tie
into the concepts of my work and why I wish to present something I find beautiful in conjunction
with a feeling or experience that is both sad and possibly emotionally dark.
In the book by Michael A. Singer titled “the untethered soul” he writes about the removing an
inner thorn that most people have in acknowledgement that there is something impinging
their growth. Many people keep the thorn and build their lives around it. But for me, I wish to remove
the thorn and carry on without it, to be truly free of the thorn “regret”. By creating works such as
the one above, I can take something ugly or not right and make it beautiful. As regret speaks of
the existential road not taken, art can speak of my journey, good or bad and have the viewer
translate it into their own visual language. It is not my job to inform the viewer, in fact I wish for
them to create their own story when viewing my work.
