August 2020 Review

My current work springs from the unstable ground of 2020 America where a historic pandemic and social upheaval have torn at the frayed fabric of an already fragile society. Using bold color, line, and comic book like imagery the viewer is invited in, and then confronted with the dysfunction and darkness of the subject matter. Painted in highly saturated acrylic color and pastel, and using symbolism and iconography the large canvas’ dominate a space and force us to question what the future may hold.

Going forward I also envision building three-dimensional structures / installations to accompany the paintings.

Gallery / museum exhibition schematic. The geometric figures would be three dimensional sheet metal sculptures, appearing somewhat playful, but  painted with similar imagery and filled with concrete to represent the heaviness of the subject matter.
