This is a great article and artist to share with students. What is so compelling is that Linares works from a folk tradition but expands the practice into his own independent work. When teaching students about the artwork of other cultures, having an individualized artist resists the compulsion for students (and teachers, for that matter) to lump traditions into a stereotypical monolith. Great choice of an exemplar!
