Arnheim Gallery
August 6-24, 2012
Artist’s Reception: Tuesday, August 7, 5 -7 pm

A multi-media showcase of thesis works by candidates in the MSAE program, the exhibition features painting, installation, and sculpture.

About the Artist/Educators:

Lysa Benton makes sculptural responses to relationships, with a particular focus on the symbiotic.  Through form, architecture, and the processes con/de-constructive, she manifests structures that inhabit, invade, and investigate spaces.

Yota Kariotis offers gallery visitors the opportunity to contribute to the creation and realization of her sculptures.  This body of work investigates the artist teacher’s role as benevolent agent provocateur.  The pieces serve as catalyst for investigation and dialogue between the artist, the materials, and the viewer/participant.

Erin Kirk creates photo-based paintings of constructed scenarios that investigate ideas of the gaze.  This work focuses on removing the female form from its usual place of objectivity and beauty in paintings and replacing that stereotype with uncomfortable and sometimes disconcertingly honest portrayals of the figure.
