Program Coordinator, Center for Arts in Education at BAA

The Center for Arts in Education at Boston Arts Academy is the professional development, outreach, and advocacy arm of the school. The Center serves as an incubator for educational innovation, promotes the role of the arts in education, and disseminates the best practices of BAA, especially the integration of arts and academics.

The Boston Arts Academy, a public high school for the visual and performing arts, is starting its 15th year in September 2012 with 415 students in Grades 9- 12. It is a joint project of the Professional Arts Consortium, Inc., (comprising the Berklee College of Music, Boston Architectural College, the Boston Conservatory, Emerson College,  Massachusetts College of Art and Design and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts) and the Boston Public Schools. The Boston Arts Academy is charged with being a laboratory and a beacon for artistic and academic innovation. The Boston Arts Academy prepares a diverse community of aspiring artist-scholars to be successful in their college or professional careers and to be engaged members of a democratic society.

Position Description
This position will report to Executive Director of the Center for Arts in Education.  This is a full time position and depending on program schedule and timeline, position schedule may vary at different times during the year.  Some occasional evening and weekend work will be required.  The National Artist Teacher Fellowship Program awards grants to teachers working in public arts high schools across the country for the purpose of artistic revitalization of artists/teachers.

Responsibilities:
The Program Coordinator will be responsible for all aspects of the National Artist Teacher Fellowship (NATF) program, including but not limited to the following:

– Managing the implementation of the program timeline;
– Creating and maintaining a working database of eligible schools;
– Creating marketing and recruiting materials to promote the program and recruit participants to submit proposals;
– Recruiting applicants through mailings, phone contacts, and setting up site visits for Executive Director to visit schools;
– Sending out Request for Proposals and responding to inquiries as well as maintaining database of submissions;
– Managing the Letters of Intent (LOI ) selection process and review (with LOI Panel) all submitted LOIs and confirm eligibility of all applicants and schools
– Maintaining communication with potential participants throughout entire process, including notifying all applicants of fellowship award selections, communicating with fellows before, during and after their projects, collecting reports from fellows upon completion of their projects and working with fellows on their presentations for the Convening Session;
– Maintaining up-to-date website content and announcements pertaining to NATF and TAA program
– Preparing applicant materials to be sent to panelists
– Planning and executing all logistical aspects of the annual Convening Session;
– Processing  paperwork for granted Fellows
– Collecting  interim and final reports from fellows
– Communicating all details of the annual convening to all fellows and administrators
– Working with travel agent on travel arrangements for annual convening
– Working  with Executive Director to set vision and schedule for annual convening;
– Helping to facilitate Annual Convening with Executive Director
– Helping to develop vision for and work toward implementation of second tier NATF Programs
– Working closely with the Executive Director to identify,  manage and facilitate panel of outside professionals to serve as jurors on the grant selection committee;
– Serving as Teachers As Artists (TAA) Program Coordinator

The Teachers As Artist Program, a local expansion of the NATF Program, is currently in its final year.  The final round of seven fellows has just been named (in April 2012).  The Program Coordinator will be responsible for wrapping up the program and following through with the final round of fellows.  Program responsibilities include:

– Planning  and executing the final Annual day-long TAA Symposium for the seven Fellows and their Administrators
– Collecting mid-year reports from 2012 TAA Fellows
– Upon receipt and review of  mid-year reports, releasing funds ($1,500) to recipient schools to support the work of the fellow in the school;
– Communicating with current and past fellows about events and opportunities
– Collecting final reports from 2012 TAA Fellows
– Working with BAA Development Team to generate final reports for funder
– Wrapping up all other aspects of the TAA Program as needed

Work with Managing Director for the Center of the Arts in coordinating all aspects of Alumni Creative Corps Program (ACC)

– Work with the Managing Director of the Center to:
– Set program goals
– Develop program timeline
– Develop professional development plan for Corps members
– Recruit new corps members;
– Communicate with BPS schools to determine need and to secure placement of Corps members into schools
– Ensure placement in schools and maintain communication with Corps members regarding placement and experience
– Submit monthly reports to Managing Director about ACC activities and progress
– Other duties as assigned

 Required:
– Experience as an artist.
– Experience in grant writing;
– Program management experience
– An interest in arts education
– Ability to work effectively and comfortable in a team-oriented, fast-pace atmosphere.
– Strong communication, interpersonal and teaming skills.
– Bachelor’s Degree
– Current authorization to work in the United States – Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment
